poisons (Rogue)

Poisons allow Rogues to coat their weapons in various poisons which can cause instant damage, damage over time, or even reduce an enemy's movement and/or casting speed.

Lockpicking (Rogue)

The Pick Lock skill allows Rogues to use [Thieves' Tools] to open locked doors, chests, and lockboxes.

First Aid

Players practicing First Aid may create a variety of bandages which can be used to heal themselves or others. Bandages are made from cloth (linen, wool, silk, mageweave, etc.), with higher quality fabrics producing more effective bandages.

Riding

Riding is a secondary profession in which characters may learn to ride mounts. Every mount has a minimum skill level required for riding. In general, a normal mount will require Apprentice riding skill, and a swift mount will require Journeyman skill, but there are exceptions.

Cooking

From Beer-Basted Boar Ribs to Giant Clam Scorcho, there is no recipe too obscure or odd to avoid notice from the Chefs of Azeroth. Food is used in the game to heal players out of combat, so they can get back to fighting as quickly as possible.

Tailoring

Tailoring allows players to cut and weave various pieces of cloth into armor, bags, shirts and other cloth items. Tailors play an especially important role in guilds because they can create bags for the entire guild provided the guild members gather the proper ingredients.

Fishing

So you want to be a fisherman? Fishing is a skill that, as you would expect, allows you to catch fish, most of which can be used with the cooking secondary skill.

Jewelcrafting

Jewelcrafting is a profession which was introduced in the Burning Crusade expansion. Players are able to make rings, trinkets, necklaces and more, as well as gems for socketed weapons and armor. Special for any Jewelcrafters are Figurines which are Bind on Pickup.

Engineering

Engineering is a primary profession in which characters may craft a variety of items with useful (and sometimes unpredictable) effects. Consumable devices can provide supplemental damage from explosives, aggro diversion and situational advantages (Discombobulator Ray and Field Repair Bot 74A)

Mining

Mining is Profession used to gather and create reagents for Blacksmithing, Engineering and Jewelcrafting. As such you could simply collect resources and sell them to blacksmiths, engineers or jewelcrafters. However, most people combine mining with blacksmithing, engineering, or jewelcrafting so they can easily create items.

Skining

Skinning allows players to gather leather, Hides and scales by skinning certain mobs (beasts, dragonkin, Silithid, and, very rarely, humanoids). Not all mobs of each type can be skinned, e.g. birds cannot be skinned despite being beasts. Leather, hides and scales are used for leatherworking.

Leatherworking

The Leatherworking profession allows players to utilize the Leather gathered through the Skinning profession to create a variety of items, including cloaks, leather and mail armors, armor kits, quivers, and ammo pouches.

Blacksmithing

Blacksmiths take bars of metal from miners and work them into finely crafted arms and armor. There are many unique weapons and other armaments that cannot be found on any of the vendors or monsters in the game; these can only be created by blacksmiths.

Enchanting

Enchanting is a primary profession in which characters may enchant and craft a variety of items with useful effects. Most trade skills have a flat learning curve.

Herbalism

Herbalism allows you to find and harvest herbs from particular resource nodes scattered around the world. It is a primary profession. While a very small number of herbs are sometimes used for other trade skills, the vast majority are used exclusively for Alchemy.
